Useful Information

The official name of the organization is the National FFA Organization.

The letters “FFA” stand for Future Farmers of America. These letters are a part of our history and our heritage that will never change. But FFA is not just for students who want to be production farmers; FFA also welcomes members who aspire to careers as teachers, doctors, scientists, business owners and more. For this reason, the name of the organization was updated in 1988 after a vote of national convention delegates to reflect the growing diversity and new opportunities in the industry of agriculture.

Today, the National FFA Organization remains committed to the individual student, providing a path to achievement in premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

FFA continues to help the next generation rise up to meet those challenges by helping its members to develop their own unique talents and explore their interests in a broad range of agricultural career pathways. So today, we are still the Future Farmers of America. But, we are the Future Biologists, Future Chemists, Future Veterinarians, Future Engineers and Future Entrepreneurs of America, too.

Agriculture Education and the Three Circle Model

Agriculture education teaches students about agriculture, food, and natural resources, a vital portion of today's economy. Students get hands on experience learning about agriculture, as well as learn components of science, math, technology, communications and more!

The three circle model encompasses the three core values of agriculture education, creating well rounded and informed individuals upon completion of an agriculture education program. These leaders are the future of our country and we are so excited to be able to teach these young minds.

Agriculture education became part of the U.S. public school system in 1917 due to the passing of the Smith-Hughes act that provided federal funding for vocational agriculture program. The FFA organization was founded in 1928, and combined with the SAE (Supervised Agricultural Experience) component, students who immerse themselves in this three circle model truly get an unmatched educational experience.

Today, over 800,000 students par take in agriculture education classes, with over 700,000 being FFA members in 8,612 FFA chapters across the country, including the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Florida FFA houses a record breaking 29,772 FFA members.

FAQ

  • What is the cost of FFA dues?
Steinbrenner FFA's cost for dues is $30- $7 goes toward National FFA dues and $10 to Florida FFA dues. The remainder amount of money is put toward the annual chapter shirt, which all FFA members receive.
  • Can I make a donation to the chapter?
Absolutely! We greatly appreciate any donation to the chapter and have projects throughout the year that can be donated to! We always have repairs and additions to our landlab, as well as costs for awards, leadership events and travel expenses. We recognize our sponsors by hanging banners near our landlab, as well as plaques and recognition on our website.
  • Can I keep an animal on property as part of Steinbrenner FFA?
We are very fortunate to have several acres that are allocated to our agriculture education program. This area is used to house both chapter and student animals, as well an essential tool for teaching students about different agriculture related tasks, including putting up fences, hands on interaction with animals and their husbandry, and exposure to a wide range of livestock. We try to accomodate as many students as we can, however we do have limited space. The best way to determine if we have available space is to reach out to the advisors, Mrs. Switzer and Ms. Morrison. Keeping an animal on the landlab is a privilege, not a right!
  • Are there any other organizations to get involved with as part of FFA?
We encourage students to become involved in their species specific organizations and any other organization that fits their interests. There are often times several opportunities within these other organizations such as scholarships or ambassador programs. Some organizations we encourage students to explore are: Junior Florida Cattlemen's Association Florida Junior Swine Circuit American Dairy Goat Association Florida Strawberry Grower's Association
  • What are industry certifications?
Industry certifications are a great way to mark student achievement and knowledge in different subject areas. We work with AEST and Florida Veterinary Medical Association to have students test their knowledge and gain these certifications that account for students getting jobs, scholarships, pay raises and more! Studens also earn money toward our program to buy new equipment and tools. Some of the industry certifications we offer are: Associate in Agriculture (AEST) Animal Science Specialist (AEST) Agriculture Communications Specialist (AEST) Certified Veterinary Assistant (FVMA)
